How do I concentrate in neuropsychology at Antioch?At AUNE, there are no predetermined elective concentrations. Students have the opportunity to create their own concentration depending on their interests. In order to create a concentration in neuropsychology that is going to be valued by internship sites, it must follow the APA Division 40 guidelines for training. The knowledge and skills all neuropsych students must learn during their training, are listed in the Houston Conference document (See Training).
The knowledge areas to create foundations for the study of brain-behavior relationships may be acquired through multiple pathways, not limited to courses, and may come through other documentable didactic methods. The elective courses offered at Antioch that should be completed in order to concentrate in neuropsych are: - Clinical Neuropsychology - Clinical Psychopharmacology Core knowledge areas that are not available at Antioch that are listed in the Houston Conference document are: - Neuroanatomy - Neurological Disorders - Non-neurological conditions affecting CNS functioning - Neuroimaging It is suggested that if you are interested in completing a neuropsych concentration, you learn about these topics outside Antioch. The National Academy of Neuropsychology offers a variety online courses and webinars for a fee. Go to their website to see what courses they are currently offering. If you do not want to pay for additional classes, there are didactic opportunities online offered for free. For example, MIT OpenCourseWare has a significant amount of Brain and Cognitive Sciences courses posted on their website. Most of the course materials, including syllabi and exams, are on the courses' websites. Depending on the interests of the group, ANST meetings may be used for didactic purposes and for learning core knowledge areas through webinars and online courses. Talk with your adviser about your interest in concentrating in neuropsychology and fill out the concentration request form together.
